2000 A6 running hot, fan between radiator and engine inop
Today I noticed coolant gauge was two ticks over half way where it normally is. I pulled over and checked coolant bottle. It is full. The mechanical fan is running. The fan in front of the condenser is running. But the fan on passenger side between the radiator and engine is off. I have been told to jump pins 1-2 as well as 3-4 of a coolant temp switch to verify the fan runs. Where is this switch located? Bottom of the lower rad hose? If the fan runs I have a faulty switch I'd surmise. But what if it still doesn't run? Thanks in advance.

The fan you are talking about is notorious for having rubber mashed into the fins, preventing it from spooling up.
With the car off see if you can move the fan freely. If not, I'd suspect something to be lodged in there.
If it's spinning freely then I'd supply 12v directly to the fan and work my way back.
The jumping procedure you are referencing I believe only applies to the fan in front of the condenser.
