Default 2001 A6 2.8 Pre-purchase Tips

Hey folks new to the forum and Audis.

Considering the purchase of a 2001 A6 2.8, and curious about what things I should pay special attention to, that are particular to Audis and this model.

Also wonder about how easy the cars are to work on. I currently drive a 1998 Saab 900s Conv. and do most of the maintenance myself, with the help of the Saab forums.

What is the reputation for this year and model?

Thanks

Good car, very reliable engine. Go to the B5 A4 subforum and the A4 general forum and read the posts that are stickies at the top. They'll help you out a lot since the majority of the mechanicals are shared between the A4 and A6. Cliff notes version is - change your oil and valve cover gaskets when needed, gap your plugs at .032", change the fuel filter once you get the car, and listen for clunking up front that indicates you need control arms. Otherwise, timing system every 60k miles and you're in for an otherwise painless ownership experience.
