Default 2001 Audi a6 4.2 transmission problems. Help ASAP

Heres the problem. The tranny is full of oil, but the gears wont shift. The guy at the shop told me it was the transmission oil pump, because after the engine is running, the tranny is still cold, and their is no oil being pumped. He said if the oil was pumping in the tranny, then the tranny would warm up, but its just cold. Is he right? If not, what are some tips you guys could provide for me. Thanks a lot.

Sounds correct to me, BUT from what you described, the diagnostic method used is not the best. Are there any codes stored in the transmission? If the pump failed, the gears won't shift as there is no pressure to run the valve body and engage the clutches.
