A6 2.5 Tdi stopped - no fault codes
Hi everyone
My 2003 2.5 Tdi Automatic just died today as I was trundling along the A38 - no warning lights, no misfire - just a dead engine coasting to a stop
Tried to start it - turned over fine but wouldn't start.
Called RAC who confirmed fuel in pump under pressure, sprayed Easi-start into air intake and it fired but would not run
Put diagnostic thingy on- no fault codes at all.
Tow truck driver suggested "fuel pump lifter" - what's that and could it be the cause ?
Any ideas most welcome as it is now in local garage who seem to have no idea either
Thanks
John B

Hi John,
Sounds like lift pump has failed or the relay for it has.
Get your garage to check all fuses and relays first then check lift pump. The lift pump scavenges the tank for fuel to avoid starving the main pump, do not run the car on easi start alone as no diesel in the main pump can damage it pretty quickly and they're £1500 ish to replace.
Get a new fuel filter fitted at the same time seeing as you have air in the system already it'll save you the aggro at a later date.
Good luck
