Basically a waste of $$$ and/or time - the stock CAI is so good there's very little you can do to improve it flow wise. People have cut holes in the airbox (search for Darintake) but for the NA engines, you won't see any performance increase.
Also, stay away from K&N type air filters - the oil from the filter will coat the MAF sensor and destroy it...

They said it all. On a side note though:
I replaced the air filter box with a K&N air filter when I originally got the car because I had no idea and a friend advised me to do it. Performance gain was 0 however it is much more cost effective to maintain now. I bought a recharge kit for 10 bucks 3 years ago and cleaned the air filter 2 to 3 times a year. I finally emptied the recharge kit this year (close to year 4). I also clean the MAF 3 - 4 times a year with the MAF Cleaner stuff and within the last 50k miles it didn't give me any trouble. Bottom line if you keep your MAF clean from the K&N Oil gunk it seems to be fine.
I think if you keep the car for a long time it will actually safe you some money but not that much.
