Oh, don't forget to reconnect the vacuum reservoir line to the front of the car. The original plastic gets really brittle. I had to replace mine just over the weekend when I was replacing the valve cover gaskets. It pretty much disintegrated.

Thank you very much for the replies. Picked up silicone vacuum line and will replace them tonight. Any idea what sensor this is to the right of the crank pulley? It has a nipple connector.. maybe it needs a pigtail or something?

2001 A6 2.8 Vacuum Reservoir Location?
Sorry for posting to this old thread but you all had excellent info that sheds light on our problem. My daughter's 2001 A6 2.8L AT with 148K miles has a hard plastic 3/16"? hose above the driver's side engine bank going towards the front of the engine that is not connected. We plugged it with a rubber cap but it appears to go to the vacuum reservoir seen in the first diagram of this thread and highlighted by hxgaser's post. Can you tell us where this vacuum reservoir is located in the engine compartment? We can't locate it but we assume it is somewhere close to the driver's side wheel well or close to it. We don't have the Bentley manual for it and hope to get one soon. Thanks in advance for any help. Sincerely, Chuck
