Exclamation Audi a6 4.2l misfire/coolant leak and code

ok so I just picked up my new toy a few weeks ago, and recently i noticed coolant leaking from the back of the motor, little but still enough that i have to refill every 2 weeks.

Also the coolant temp sensor code came up with the engine light and i get a little misfire when driving in traffics (stop/go) but otherwise fine on the highway.

What are some common issues i should look into? from what i know the car has new coil packs and has 188000km.

Any help would be great!! thanks

It would help if you specify the year of your a6 4.2 . There are different things to look for and and common problems between c4 and c5's.

with that mileage the first thing I would check into would be the timing belt.

2001 sorry. the leak is from the back of the motor, isnt the timing belt and water pump all at the front?

Im hoping its just the sensor itself. I was told the coolant can be leaking from it, bad o-ring or something? would that cause the misfire and engine light? its a small leak.

You are correct the waterpump and such would be in the front which would require a TB service. Leaking from the rear could be the coolant temp sensor (that has a rubber o-ring) or simply a clamp / hose coming lose due to age. You will have to track it down to the exact point to start repairs but it shouldn't be too costly.

Misfiring + engine light is probably something else. Have the codes scanned and post them here to see where the miss firing is happening.

Only code that came up was the coolant temp sensor code, possibly the random misfire code as well but dont recall exact.

Dont have the code reader at the moment but ill try and repost exactly what codes are coming up.

on your car you must look at one thing at a time, I know you want answers but nothing on a Audi can be fixed unless you take all related things first. Now what type of coolant fluid are you using to refill? Audi's do not like mixed fluid. Second it must be the right type, not anything from Auto Zone will help you.

Third to clear the code you must remember when you get a Temp code (( understand that you have more than one Temp code source. The one one the back of the motor is one and you also have one on the lower end of the radiator, and your sensor leaking causes a vaccum leak. The coolant is pressurized, so all air has to be out of the line.

If the radiator sensor is bad it will show the same code.

Once you check those little things I will be ready to share more information, so you can be driving once agian
