hi all! new to the forum cuz I just bought a new audi a6 avant(from supposedly '98). There was no manual when I bought it so I've been searching the web for all my info. I bought it from a dealer for a cheap price with not much wrong with it. And just registered the car yesterday with no problems. But now i've got a problem. I am not sure if the year of the car is correct. The reason I say this is cuz I just got AllData10, and it tells me for a '98 the battery is located under the hood close to the windshield. In my car the battery is under the rear passenger seat. I've checked online and cant find people's post sayin that their audi a6 '98 have a battery under the passenger seat(though '96 audi a6 has one there). The car has gone through the hands of a couple of dealers in the past 2 years so I was wondering if there was a way that they have changed the info on the car to change the year of make? Or if anyone could tell me that AllData10 is wrong and they have a battery in their rear passenger seat(if they have a '98 audi a6 avant). I am not too worried about this but I do want to buy an actual manual and dont want to buy one for the wrong year with different information. Thanks for ur help!!

 

Our 93 wagon has the battery under the rear seat , not sure what year they switched to under the hood?

 

Which one of these Avants do you have?

C4 A6 Avant


OR

C5 A6 Avant


I'm gonna assume it's the first photo.

C4 A6 1994-1997 (I think it's dated even earlier, but under the "100" badge instead of "A6")
C5 A6 1997-2004

I don't think the Avant on the C5 platform came out until 1998. So the A6 Avant would have still been on the C4 platform up until somewhere mid 1998.

So when when you're looking for information on your A6, you would have better results searching under the C4 Platform (1994-1997). Otherwise most of the results you get would likely end up being for the C5 platform.

But if my assumption was wrong, then I'm pretty much lost lol.

 

Hi there. Try running your VIN on one of the free checks like carfax or or autocheck.
These will give you basic info like year and model and if there are any recalls pending without having to pay a fee.

 

thanks OGBULLYLOCDAWG. I thought C5's or C4's were completly different cars. but thanks for ur analysis. its raining up here in the north-east, but once it stops I'm gonna check all the other vin locations to see if they match up!
