I got my A6 2.7T MTa little more than a month ago, and to be honest I'm in love with it, but one thing I have a hard time doing is going above 3k RPM. Now, the car doesn't have a problem going above and beyond that, it's just that I can't bring myself to rip it apart like that. I came out of a '95 GTI which I used to near red line every gear, and it came naturally, but with the 2.7T just to 3k RPM seems plenty to have the car moving. So tell me guys, what RPMs do you guys usually shift up.

PS. I had a good chuckle when my buddy told me he raced another 2.7T and got his *** handed to him.

2500rpm is usually when im driving normally, but occasionally i'll shift at redline to put some mustang in his place

Most cars are the same general rule. 2500-3k. Don't be afraid to redline as motors are built to handle up to redline (that's why redline is there) it's just harder on the engine and if you do it all the time stuff will start failing. It just plummets your wear time.

Same here, I shift between 2500-3000rpm. Every once in awhile I'll rip it because some rice burning *** clown will pull up and ride next to me slouched so far back in his seat he's in the back seat. He revs his little eggroll exhaust tip.. as I have a huge smirk on my face cause I am fully spooled in 2 nd gear doing about 3 grand then smack! I'm out. He doesn't know what hit 'em.

Do you guys get the feeling of hard shifts when shifting through the gears normally? Just when the clutch engages and then releases. For example, going from first to second then releasing the clutch it will be a hard shift (in ever gear) if not feathered. I hope my universals aren't going. Do these cars have universals?
Or maybe I can't drive stick. Duhno?

You probably just have a heavy foot. If you're spooling you'll feel a bit of a hard shift unless you ride your clutch a lot (not a good idea).

Let me clarify again, no matter what gear I'm coming out of when the clutch is all the way out Iget a clunk unless I ride the clutch a little; almost have to feather it, is that cause its awd? The clutch is fine, it lets out low to mid way. I'm pretty sure it's not me. I've been driving stick for well over 13 years now I currently own a 1963 Corvette Stingray holding a 383 stroker (455HP at the wheels) with a Super T-10 4spd. I have no problems with that baby.

I normally shift my MT6 under 2000rpm around town. It's got plenty of pull even in the higher gears. On very rare occasions I'll jump on it and shift above 4-5000 rpm. But mostly I just drive it around 80 on the interstate - that's like 2700 rpm.

I usually shift at 3000 or a little bit after... Its really nice to get that turbo boost as it kicks in through the 2000-3000rpm. I find the is the easiest way to drive the car and results with a much smother and seemingly much less painful shift. Before 2500 you will notice that 2nd gear is not as easy to shift into... the shifter just doesn't fall into the gear... I know this because I have had two MT6 Tranny's and I got about 5000 miles on the new one. Try it next time you drive. I think you will find that you can get a much smother ride and shift if you calmly make your way past 3000, at a reasonable traffic acceleration, or even when your getting on it. This way when you shift into 2nd your beggining at about 2000 rpm's, rather than under 2000, which is a point where you have little acceleration due to less boost. Good luck. Has anyone noticed that during High RPM shifts that it is not possible to get a reasonably smooth shift unless you give a reasonable amount of time for the RPM to fall? I know that the Audi Manual is still somewhat of a luxury transmission, but do we really need to provide soo much time for shifting? Does anyone know what the causes of this high RPM tranny torture?

on a rare occasion when i gun it into high rpm's and i do a shift, it transitions sooo smoothly, so i don't know about your high rev shifts...

I have issues shifting at high revs as well. If I take off onto the highway in second and bring it to red line, I find 3rd very difficult to hit, and usually takes a second or two. Not sure what causes it, but boy is it annoying. I'm trying a short shifter next to see if that makes a difference.

As far as around town goes, I also find that 3000k shift point generally keep the car smooth. I don't like going below 1800 RPM because the car dogs and doesn't like it. Ever since doing my down pipes it sounds like the car is really digging and actually vibrates and chugs a little bit below 1800. Wondering if something could be wrong.
