AUDI..oil consumption...alot?
#12
I was also adding about a quart every 1,000 miles, but I had several things going on: leaking rear main seal, leaking upper pan gasket, plugged suction Y-pump - leading to valve cover gasket leak, and worn-out rings.
My pistons were coated with a pretty thick layer of soot, after cleaning them 13 k miles before...

This is the Y-pump I mentioned - it links the manifold to the valve cover - part of the so-called "spider hose" :
Comparing the one in the car with the new replacement, I just realized that the old one was plugged. And the damn thing is only 15-25 bucks...

my can is consuming 1qt every 2k miles... I have 2001 A6 2.8L... what can i do to fix this issue? Is it a simple fix or cost a lot of money? I got about 85k miles on it and I think the previous owner did not change oil at the regular interval.

2009 A4 oil consumption, now blow timing chain
Our daughter's 2009 A4 CPO was part of the oil consumption problem. Audi replaced the bottom half of the engine around 60,000. Car was maintained according to their directions. Now at 114,000 miles the tensioner failed and the timing chain broke and threw shards of metal throughout the engine. She still has $8,000 left to pay on the loan and they are telling her it will be $12,000 to replace the engine. Got Audi corporate involved and they are acting like they are helping, but spoke to the dealer and Audi is putting it on them. They are trying to find a used engine and will charge us $6,000. Ugh any solutions out there?
