Blower stops running after few minutes
I have 1998 A6 2.8 30v. It has the solar sunroof which runs the blower on low when the vehicle is parked in the sun. I bought it in FL, but now is in Cleveland, OH.
The climate control seems to be working fine. Vents controls work, temperature adjustment works and blower speed works. I am running it in the econ position. About 15 minutes after driving the blower cuts off. Everything else works normal. I tried the Auto setting and nothing.
About 5 months ago I replaced the blower control resistor, but when that went out the system was acting wacky like turning off, running at full speed, then stopping, etc. Not what is happening now. I did buy an aftermarket new part. I guess the dealer part is better, but I didn't think it was $280 better. So could it be the resistor again?
Also my coolant light came on, I have a small leak at T-hose under the back of the engine, and I have not been able to get that fixed yet. I will top off the fluid, but I don't think that would cause the problem?
Adding coolant did not make any difference, and now it does not even run when car first started. Also while stopped, I can feel a slight draft of warm air comming through the vents and when I turn climate control to off it stops. So I guess the fan is running at the lowest default setting. Looks like I need another blower motor resistor?

The first thing I'd do is see how many amps that blower motor draws. I had a VW that had a blower motor that worked but drew I think 12-13 amps, and the allowable amount was I think 10, the fuse was a 10 amp fuse and I remember the motor drew just a little over what the fuse was rated for. It had a bad resister, replaced that and it went bad again because of this bad blower motor. I have a split vin for 98, early motor is 4B1820021 for 431.52, later 98 vin is 4B1820021B for 212.04 dollars.
If you think it could be in the heater/ac control head in your dash, there are multiple choices, need vin to ID the correct one but they retail at 1485.00 and your price 1196.91, for most choices. I am hoping this isn't the problem for you, maybe something else in the system is the fault.
