Default Key turns loosley/freely in ignition

Hello everyone, I am seeking help with my 2001 Audi A6. The car has 160,000 Miles with the 4.2L motor.

I am trying to pinpoint my problem. Just today as usual I unlocked the car via driver door entry then inserted the key into the ignition. When i turned the key i may have felt something break. Now my key will turn to all 3 positions just will not grab. It feels abnormally loose. I am able to remove the key still. If the key is in the ignition and the door is open it will still sound as well as when i open the door the milage and date/time appear on dash. Also none of the lights on instrument cluster come on.

I have been researching all day for someone with the same problem but I am unable to find one exactly the same. I spoke with the local Audi dealer and they informed me that the ignition and or whole steering column would need to be replaced by giving them the VIN so they could make a new part specifically for the vehicle.

The car is stuck at a parking lot 30min from my house so is there is any solution to simply start the car by bypassing ignition? If anybody has ideas please feel free to let me know. Thanks in advance
