Car Locked Down- Need Help
Hello,
My key got submerged in water, and I tried to dry it out, but I guess it didn't fully dry. I put the key in the ignition and the car just locked itself...glovebox, electronics, gear shift...I cant move the car. Does anyone know how to disengage the gear shift so I can put it into N so I can get it towed? Or anyone know what happened and what I could possibly do to get this car working? 2005 A6 Qtro. I appreciate any feedback. Thanks

I never had to do this myself but I've read several times how to put a car into neutral with an automatic shifter if the car is locked down like yours. Pry open (gently!) the cover around the shifter. In one of the corners should be a little button or lever that you can push to unlock the shifter and move it into the N position.
In regards what to do in this case: Once you get the car moving you probably have to bring it to the dealer and get a new key (or 2 to have a spare). Be prepared to for a nice 400-600 bill depending on where you bring it and if you get 1 or 2 keys reprogrammed. Unfortunately without the right tools you have to get the dealership reprogram the new key(s) - this is not something you can easily do at home.
