Dead in the Water
My wife's 2006 A6 Quattro 3.2 is dead. Went to get her started this morning to go to the hospital and nothing. I know the battery is in the trunk and after 6 years I figured it was a goner. Time to get a new one, I suspect. I wanted to read the manual, but I can't get in the glovebox as it is electronically opened. Now what? After trying to search I didn't find what I was looking for, but I did read I could have radio problems by changing the battery myself.
Options: buy a new battery; tow it to dealer where we get all of our work done; jump it and drive it to dealer or ????
I thank you for help.

First call the dealer and see what a battery costs. Some guys have found that the dealer battery cost is reasonable. Then call the Advance Auto and NAPA and ask what they charge and if they battery is in stock. Then I would jump it and drive it to whoever you want and have them install the battery. Advance Auto will put the car on a battery maintainer while they change it so you will not lose anything. You still may need to have the battery coded properly in the computer but that can wait until you get to the dealer.

I never like to jump the car. If ht ebattery is below about 11 volts, it is possibl etha tth ealternator will burn up tryin gto recharge it, they are not made for that kind of duty cycle. In addition, jumpng a batery can produce surges that can damamge the electronics. Much better to test the battery, if its bad, go buy a new one and put it in right where it sits. If you can't fix it in place, tow it to a shop, just don't jump it.
