Default Disable Dash Lights

Our '99 A6 quattro sedan has the dash lights turned on all the time while the engine is running, even if the corner lights aren't on. It's kind of annoying, because it causes me to forget to turn on my headlights when I get in the car at night in well-lit areas (a dark dash is a good cue). This has happened numerous times already.

Is there a way to make it so the dash lights don't turn on unless the corner lights are on, like the vast majority of vehicles out there that don't have automatic headlights? The current functionality is a pain and will probably cause an accident in the near future.

The dash lights should not be on unless the corner light are on. You might have some electrical issues. Do the lights turn off after the key is removed? Do they remain on at all times?

try a battery disconnect. That should reset everything. If not then you will have to look into wiring.

I just checked with other, similar Audi models from that model year, and the behaviour is normal.

I still want to disable it. I really dislike having the dash lights on unless my corner lights are turned on. This is an accident waiting to happen.
