Red face ECM or Transmission issues

Need advise on my 3rd Audi: Recently just purchased a 2003 A6 for my son. His first beat up car. Needs work. Lady recently replaced the ECM after rain got in and fried the ECM under the passenger side floor but didn't get it reset or programmed. Swears the car drove perfect prior to the new ECM being replaced. The car wouldn't go forward ever since. Only in reverse. Everything else seems fine with the car. I'm not sure if its just a matter of resetting the ECM properly or is it the transmission? Any insights?

i would say that the tcm, the trans computer is not the correct one. couple different ones used.. ff is the ending on one .. etc.. alot of times if in alot of water it will ruin the one wire in the harness, the + all the time water.. this will make your dash indicator be all lit up for your PRND321. dont keep trying to make it go forward, or you will ruin the trans.. to my knowledge if its a used tcm, it doesnt need to be programmed.. i have worked on over 10 cars, and its just pop another one in.
