I just bought an audi a6 2001 2.8 quattro and also smell the gas in my car sometimes... I thought it was the O2 sensor issue and I went to get it fixed but found out the the o2 sensor are fine... the recall letter mention VIN #WAU- - -4B_lN157331 - as the effected
and my vin # WAUEH64B11N164162 .... does it mean my car is part of the recall ? will the audi dealer still repair for free?

I have a 2005 A6 and I had the same issue as well. I think it started because over the winter we had 30 inches of snow and while driving over an ice packed road I banged the bottom of the car really hard and did some damage. Later I began getting the gas smell and in fact I noticed the car was leaking gas. Took it to the dealer and they replaced the gas valve but I still had the smell. Took it back last week and they repaired it and now smell is gone.

Default Various short to ground codes and under 3k rpm chatter

I notice a smell every once in a while on mine with 210k. Not enough to really complain about though usually.

I had this happened to me. I smelled gas driving home. I looked under the car and gas was dripping. I set a can under it for the night. Next morning there was almost a cup. I took my A6 2.7 to Roger Beasley in Austin (towed from Waco). It was just the nipple, but he said there was no limits to safety. I told them my kids ride in the car a lot. They replaced the whole gas tank for free. They also gave me a free loaner. It took like 2 weeks, but I didn't mind the brand new car I got to drive. When I took the loaner back, I forgot to fill it up, they told me not to worry about it.

Default Audi Gas Smell.

O.K. Here is my issue, which is slightly different.

I have a 2001 A4 2.8 with 98,000 miles. I have a strong gas smell which I'm sure is coming from the trunk. I have had it checked by my mechanic and they couldn't find anything wrong with leaks. They did a smoke test because a C.E.L. was coming back for the EVAP, but they found nothing. They replaced the gas cap too.

I still smell strong gas odors but here's the thing. They INSTANTLY GO AWAY when I turn the air ON. I mean instantly!

Anyone know what this could be??

Thanks,
E.

I have a 2001 A6 with the 2.7L engine and I am having the strong gas odor when I am in the car or outside. I took it to an Audi dealership by Chicago and they said mine is not part of the recall.. It has the EXACT same issue that everyone is posting here but the VIN doesn't include mine.. Is there anything I can do?

If not, anyone know how much it is to fix the nipple? Could this also be triggering the check engine light?

Thanks,

Kevin

Default Gas Smell

2001 A6 2.7T, 85k,,,occasional gas smell also, comes and goes, will check the recall notice indicated earlier about 4 nipples on gas tank :

if not, may be front end gaskets, will check options and update....seems odd that so many have this issue, mostly seem gas tank nipple issue tho, thks

I live in Colorado and we had 2 Arctic cold fronts come in within 2 weeks. Every time it drops below 5 degrees (which only happened twice so far) I smell the gas fumes inside the drivers cabin. Once I get onto the interstate it's gone (probably because of the airflow). It seems as if the fumes are coming from under the hood and not from the trunk or underneath the backseats.
Now that temperatures have risen way above 0-5f no smell and runs great. Unfortunately though I got the 4.2 2002 a6 and it's not covered by the recall but then again it might not be the problem I'm having.
