Default Headlight too Dim

Hello All,

I just bought my first Audi A6 Quattro. I live in MD and have to do a State Inspection and the right Headlight is too dim and wont pass the test. They changed the bulb and it still won't pass. I checked the fuses also and they're good. Any help would be Greatly appreciated.

If you have h.I.d model and light looks purpleish or dim and youve changed bulb, then check battery level If all is well its the ballast.

That's what I was thinking too, probably the ballast.

Thanks guys. The battery is good. Going to try the ballast this weekend. Going to do some research on how to remove/replace the part. I'll let you guys know if it's a success!

You have to remove the headlight from the vehicle, the ballasts are mounted on the bottom of the light.

Swap the ballast between headlights and see if the problem follows.

I think the location of the ballast depends on the year. On my 2008 the ballast is actually attached to the bulb. Changing them is quite easy once you gain access to the back of the headlight (a little tricky)

Good catch!

I completely overlooked the fact that he didn't even list the year or trim. Usually when guys on this forum say "Audi A6 Quattro", I just assume it's the C5 platform.

On the C5 the ballasts are located under the headlight assembly itself.
