Default transmission woes

my Audi A6 2.7T only has 72K miles on it, but it turns out the high pitched squeal i heard was my transmission. according to the mechanic i took it to, the torque converter came apart, spewing metal and black oil throughout the transmission. it sounds bad, and i need some advice on next steps asi still owe $5,000 onthis car! should i fix it with a rebuilt transmission instead of a factory transmission? should i sell it as is? should i ditch it? any advice out there?

only 72 K -- It's a baby-- fix it. Others may be able to sugest the best option, but just make sure there is a good guarantee on the replacement.

I would throw in a tranny from a junkyard, a good place to find audi used parts is www.shokan.com, they specialize in audi's.

Edit: a matter of fact i just checked and shokan has a 2.7T automatic with a blown engine with a good tranny, you might wanna get a quote from them to pull the tranny.

Skokan is good.

If they don't have one call Chris Semple at Force Five Auto in Concord NH 603-223-6700

wow -- you guys are great! the first shop i took it to made me so angry that i hated to even leave my poor car on their lot overnight...but then I found a place (BCC Transmissions in Rockville MD, anyone have a opinion?) that seemed to be open to replacing the transmission with a non-Audi factory new or rebuilt transmission, all for between $2200 and $3000. that seems reasonable in relation to the $7000 that the first jerk wanted, but am i being naive? thanks again to all for your input!
