HID Headlight bulb replacement

Bearz - those would be it Good luck with your install brother.
SilverAudi - Yes, those would be your "low beams" - which on our cars happens to be HID (high intensity discharge) bulbs [not on all models though] over halogen (ugly yellowish "normal" light bulb with no xenon gas). You need two D2S 12v/35w 4300k/6000k/8000k/10000k/12000k (your preference on color) to replace your burnt out bulb.

Soooo... I recieved my new bulbs today! But it did not fix the bulb outage unfortunately. I switched the bulb to the other side and it turned on, which really isnt a big deal because I love the new 6000ks.
Should I just assume that its the ballast, or is there anything else that I can try before buying a replacement? I would hate to get a ballast then have it not work either.
Thanks again!

gahndai: What year/milage is your a6 brother? Please clarify by what you mean you "switched the bulb to the other side and it turned on." Meaning the bulb you originally believed to be burnt out (let's say passenger side for shitz n giggles) you removed both bulbs, and then put the passenger side ("burnt out bulb") into the driver side headlamp and the suspected "burnt out bulb" powered on? Have you tried to put the "driver side good bulb" into the "bad passenger" side? If that bulb does then not light, I would suggest replacing your ballasts as that would be a tale-tell sign your ballast unfortunately died.

I drive a 2002 Audi A6 Quattro. Around 102k miles.
Yes i move the bulb that was suspected to be out to the other side and it turned on. I then moved the known good bulb to the other side and it would not.
I have been eying a used ballast on ebay that came out of the same car I own, but maybe I should buy new?
To replace the ballast I will need to remove the tire and then the interior wheel well plastic stuffs, then I will have access to the ballast?
I have not worked on many cars in my day but am a smart guy if you can point me in the right direction.
You have been a HUGH help thus far, thank you!

Received the new ballast and was able to remove the plastic wheel well cover and access the ballast easily. Once the cover was off replacing took only about 30 min. One screw holds the ballast in place with a bracket that slides into the frame.
Thanks for all your help guys!
