Default High pitch squeak when turning

1998 A6 Quattro 172k

The front passenger side of my car makes a weird squeak noise sometimes when I turn. It only makes the noise when turning and not all of the time. I know noises are hard to diagnose without hearing them but does anyone have any ideas what the sound could be from?

Thanks

First thing is check your power steering reservoir. Top off if low. If it's low check your lines...probably leaking somewhere.

IF that's good, you could have any variety of issues. Control arms, sway bar bushings bad, possibly tie rod ends....or your CV boot could be ripped which has allowed dirt to get in making a bad noise when turning.

You may want to check your tie rods particularly if you notice the noise at low speeds like when pulling in and out of parking spaces.

I'm with Madridlover here. Low fluid possibly, air in system or with the mileage, the pump itself may just be worn out and needs replacing.

The tie rods are good, they were replaced a little while ago. The control arms were swapped out about 2 years ago. The control arms did make squeaking noises but this is a different sound. The noise when turning and there is more force on the passenger side of the car. I will check the power steering fluid and see if it is low.

On man I have d same problem u have it usually happens when I turn d steering wheel on hard turns or making a U turns or making at left/right turn without really applying much brakes. And d noise is harder on d passenger side of d car.

Also I don't know if is happening to u or if is even related? When I'm parking d car d steering wheel make some weird noise as I'm turning it all d way to d left or right.
Now I had my control
Arms/tie rod/sway bars replaced, I check d fluid, is not low even tho it looks dirty. So maybe we have air on d steering lines/pump? Hope we could figured this out soon!

It's likely that one of your CV joints is dry. Take a look down there for grease everywhere or a loose CV.

I will take a look at the CV on the passenger side.

The heator fan is situated behind the passenger side glove compartment. If the fan bearing becomes slightly worn it allows the fan to touch the caseing and make a high pitched squeek. On my 1995 Avant, this happens when I turn right only and the fan is running. Try poducing the squeek when cornering and then turn the fan off, if the squeek goes away, you have found the problem.
