Hello. Im new to audi so i have few noob questions.
When accelerating car sounds like v8 in empty metal can if you can say that. (car is all stock). Is that what 4.2 normally sounds like?

Second:
When i floor it let say going around 60mph car will down shift but doesnt get that kick, for some reason it likes to down shift to 3-3.5k rpms not like other cars to 5k or so. Tranny seems to be in good condition i dont know if all 4.2 a like that, feels kinda slow.

3rd none v8 model 02-04 headlight wont fit on v8 models just like grill?

4th after replacing power steering hose my steering wheel gets hard sometimes when i turn then becomes smooth again. Will that go away after few hundred miles?

5th
will gauge cluster 02 and up work with my 01 v8?

2: do a throttle body reset. If the PO drives the car really slow the ecu learns the driving style and adapts which results in very low rpm shifts and slow kick down or High rpm shifts and quick kicks downs for aggressive drivers

3: not 100% but I would think yes. I think only difference is rear bumper and exhaust in 02+ and interior changes. Also 02+ 4.2 are bixenon

4. You may have a air in the PS.

5. Yes again. Should* work only difference I believe is the silver trim.

 

Typically when I floor it to pass, my foot goes all the way down and then I have to push a little harder to get past a sort of stop, it's hard to explain. What I would do is go in your car (off obviously) and push the pedal all the way to the floor and then a little more. There should be a click which engages the "passing mode." When I do that, the transmission shifts down and the RPM's rise to 5k which gives me more than enough to pass. Hope that helps a bit.

 

Got the down shift working i just didnt press hard enough to pass that switch lol.
