Default MAF issue, I think...

Hi all, just joined... A6 2,5 tdi V6 1999 auto

Have been having problems with lack of power, 20 to 30 mph up hills, not reving past 3000rpm. Checked the forums for ideas. Have checked for leaks, turbo works fine, changed coolant temp sensor.

Disconnected the MAF today and the car went into limp mode (I Think) - clunk when selecting drive and reverse, light cam on the dash with ! inside a circular arrow, and the PRN1234 was illuminated. The car drove off slowly however drove much better - turbo kicked in and got to 80mph with no problem (not as fast as it should be though). MAF back on again and same problem.

The previous owner (a mate) told me that he put a new Bosch MAF in before he sold me it. I have ordered some of the 5 star bits to take out the MAF in order to clean it ....any more ideas???

Thanks for reading
