Mystery Ground Wire

Mystery Ground Wire
Hello all,
I have a 1998 A6 Quattro. As I was checking the color of my engine temperature sensor for replacement (blue, 4 pin), I found this random ground wire disconnected. I was able to take a picture of one end of it still attached, but I'm not sure where the other end goes. It must have been like this for a long time because I know I didn't do this, and I did take it to the dealer for an electrical recall of the front headlights several years ago. The only thing not working in my car is the cruise control (very long time), so I doubt this wire is a major issue, but still, I don't like loose ends.
Anyone know where this goes and what it's for specifically? Any help would be much appreciated!
