Oil recommendation
I've got a 2002 A6 3.0 with 72K miles. I will be getting it back after some extensive repairs and was thinking since I put so much money into repairs maybe I should get some input on what type oil I should start using.
What do you all recommend?

RE: Oil recommendation
You want an oil that is VW 502 00 compliant. Audi has a TSB that identifies all 14 of the oils that comply with this standard. It is almost unbelievable that Audi only certfies 14 oils as being satisfactory. Some of themost common of the 14 oils include: Mobil 1, Pennzoil Platinum European Formula Ultra, Quaker State European Engine Ultra, Kendall GT-1 Full Synthetic Motor Oil and Castrol SLX Professional OE. I guess you could also call your dealer and see what they suggest.

RE: Oil recommendation
I use 5W-30 Mobil 1 because I can find it anywhere. I buy the 5 qt jugs from Wal-Mart and they run about $21. On a non-turbo car a full synthetic probably isn't a huge deal, but for those of you with turbos *ahem* joetm *ahem* I would highly recommend you use a full synthetic as it performs much better in high heat situations (and a turbo is a high heat situation).
ALso, I run at least 5,000 miles between changes, and I am not afraid to go as high as 7,500. When you balance out the increased price of the oil vs. a conventional and you factor in the longer intervals between changes....the cost difference is essentially negligible.
My local Ford dealer will take my filter ($4 at fleetfilter.com)and oil and change it for $10, so for me it's a no brainer. Sure I could do it myself, but my time is worth more than $10, and they vacuum the interior, top off the fluids, and even do the windows.
