Default 2003 A6 4.2 Special Edition??

Hey folks, came across a car I am thinking of buying. It has a couple things about it that I have never seen.

First off, it has a red flag next to the 4.2 badge on the trunk lid, it has full carbon fiber trim (like the RS6), and has a audi signature badge on the trim above the glove box

It's black on black but has gray side mirrors.

Is this some special edition or something? Anyone know?

Thanks!

Huh? You think its all just cheap aftermarket stuff? The carbon fiber isn't a sticker, looks stock or pulled from an rs6.

You have an S6. It has a 340 hp engine instead of the usual 305.

I bet you anything its just an a6 with some stuff tacked on. The S flags can be bought and judging from the size of the exhaust the previous guy wanted people to think it was an s6. The carbon fiber is probably pulled from an RS6, or it is just the normal trim wrapped with carbon fiber tape. Beware of people who do these kinds of mods to the car. You never know what else they have messed with.

The title won't be specific to the S6. Maybe the VIN would be, but not the title. Which is OK because you don't want to give the insurance companies any more of an excuse than they already have to jack up your rates. But, the trunk lid should have had some sort of special badging. You might want to do a search on Audi VIN codes, either here or over at AudiWorld, to see if you can see what engine the car has in it. Otherwise, you should assume the worse and listen to jhuffman.

VIN says it's an A6, the boot badge says A6, it's an A6... I think the guy previous to me put S6 gray side mirrors on (maybe), got the carbon fiber out of an RS6 (doesn't at all look like a sticker and RS6 rims (price check?).

It's just the red flag next to the 4.2 boot badge and the signature plate inside that are weird. Having the car go through inspection this week so we'll see what the mechanics say.

The inspection could prove you have 4.2.
Odometer correction is what you should worry about...

Carfax shows regular maint at the dealer with mileage captured. Can you fake a carfax?
