Default service insp

My car has recently been saying service insp in where the milage is displayed not in the center display.I would guess i need some sort of service inspection but not sure what....no manual (just have kept forgetting to order one) and I would like to know what it means...only has been displaying it for 2 days so it has not been going on too long
thanks in advanced

bump...still showing but nothing is wrong that i can notice with the car....meaning there aren't any noises or anything that would bring my attention to it just wondering what it might be if anyone has any ideas. It was just in getting a new bumper thanks to someone with a trailer hitch in a parking lot not knowing they were parking into my car so i dont know if just needs to be reset or something....thanks in advanced

Service reminder comes on at various times such as oil change etc. The interval is set by the dealer. On some cars it can be cleared by pressing a sequence of buttons and on others it takes a VAGCom to reset it. When I ask the question people refer me to the manual andtell me which buttons to push - but it dosen't work on my 97 Avant. My manual is quiet about resetting it.

Someday I'll figure out how to reset it with my VAG Com but for now I'm just living with it.

You forgot to tell him that he needs to stand on one foot and hold his nose with his left hand while pushing the buttons and turning the key!
