Default Strange Cold Weather Stalls 2000 A6 4.2 auto

Hi Everyone, appreciate you taking a look here, this is my first post on the forums. I'm having an issue with my 2000 A6 which I could really use help with. It's a 4.2 liter V8 Quattro with auto transmission. As far as I know it's had all scheduled maintenance and then some.

A few other similar threads have suggested cleaning different sensors to fix problems like this, if that's what you recommend could you pretty please include a link to a tutorial for me? I'm kind of a nub.

The Problem: Strange Cold Weather Stalls
-Starts up just fine
-Goes into gear fine
-Accelerates to end of driveway fine
-Sputters a bit as entering traffic
-Sputters and dies when decelerating at first stop
--(downshifting seems to be a major factor)

After a stop at convenience store, dies when backing out of parking spot while shifting from reverse back to drive.

Only other detail I can think of that might be relevant is that the power steering makes noise, sometimes, when it's really cold out. But I'm pretty sure that just needs to be flushed again.

Took it to a shop for this last year and they said it seemed fine even thought it shifted rough on me as I drove it out of their parking lot...

or

Or is there a cheaper alternative?
I'll do my forum research on code readers tonight but I'm running to dinner. Sorry to be such a noob, thanks for sending me in the right direction.

Cheap answer may be add some gas line antifreeze. It's worth a buck just in case it is the problem.
