Tiptronic Question - First gear
I have a 2000 A6 2.7T (Tiptronic) and have a couple questions about how the tiptronic transmission works. I have noticed that tiptronic mode cannot access 1st gear. Tiptronic mode wont hold it in 1st gear when accelerating moderately and also when coming to stop and trying to shift down to 1st from 2nd.
Originally I thought this was a bug, but after doing a little digging it looks like this could be how it is programmed. Why does it do this and is there anything wrong with trying to reprogram it with a VAG-COM? I think I read somewhere that it can be reprogrammed so that when it is in tiptronic mode, up means up a gear and down really means down a gear (as long as the RPMs are safe).

It is the normal for it. As far as reprogramming, I will let someone else chime in. On my 01 2.7t, I also can not influence 1st into 2nd and vice-versa. I was complaining about how fast it shifted even with WOT, found out I had to reprogram the transmission by pressing the gas pedal three times with ignition on but engine off. This didnt do anything except for reset shift points though.
