Default Transmission/Shifter issue

2004 A6 2.7T with the following problem: When I place the gear selector in "D", it automatically goes into manual mode on the display. Goes into "S" if shifted down without this happening. Also, it seems it will not shift in manual mode and shifts at a higher RPM than normal (3000+) in other modes. Can't get my laptop to recognize VAG, so I don't have any codes from the gearbox, there are no engine code present. Spent the last few hours searching the forums with nothing found, any help or advice would really be appreciated.

Did some more reading, on here and other forums, and I am thinking it could be the magnets. I'll take it apart on my next day off and see. In the mean while if anyone has other ideas, please let me know.

Problem solved...for now. Water in the battery compartment down to the TCM.(It has rained here for a week now) Got everything dry and working like it should. Decided to give everything a looking over, so now I get to put in ANOTHER axle next week, and maybe upper control arms. I LOVE THIS CAR!
