Default What size spacers do I need for my car?

Hello all! I just bought some RS4 replica rims for my 2000 A6 2.7T. The rims are 18x8.5 with a 38mm offset. I put on some 245-40-18 tires on them and my tires are rubbing against what I believe is the strut housing. Anyone else have this problem? If so, what size spacers did you use? I knew I should have gotten the 235's !! :-) Sorry, I tried to search it, but couldn't find anyone with the same tires and wheels.

I got them from velocity motoring. They are pretty nice looking rims. They look quality made.

You didn't search too hard. I'm a regular poster and also run the Velocities RS4 replicas with 235's. No rubbing. See dimensions below.

Your probably running those 17's on the front right? I saw that post. Anyway, I have an update. What I thought was no clearance was actually a little bit of clearance. Very small. Only small enough to slide a piece of card board back and forth through it between the tire and that strut arm (i think thats what it is). Is that enough? Will the tire move with that arm? Or will it rub when I hit a bump? Thanks!

Front right, front left, rear right, and rear left.

My winter rims are OEM 17" and I run the 18"Velocities in the summer.

I think I might just go with the 235s just to be safe.

YOU need 235's, what kind of tire are you running.
Are you lowered? Sure you're not just rubbing against the liner? Check it with your fingers
With a 38ET and 8.5" wide rim, you can't put too big of a spacer, try a 5mm.

Also one of the screw holding the liner is at the top center of the fender, tires on lowered cars tend to rub against it. Remove it. it'll help.
BTW there is another thread giong these days about a uy who asked about 245's on 18's!

I got 245 Goodyear F1 As on my 18" DTM RS4 18 X 8 ET35 and they rubbed.. a lot! had them swapped for 235's.

The car is not lowered. It just barely clears the big arm behind the wheel. I just bought some Nankang nsII tires. Best bang for the buck.

I would change to the 235's, I have a question though. What the heck do the numbers mean? I know the middle number is the inner number for the tire wall(18's use 40, 17's are 45 etc.) what is the first number is that the outer number of the ouside of the tire. So in theory you should not chang the first number unless you want more tire wall?
