2012 Audi A8 L recall fixed, no heat now
Hi, I have a 2012 Audi A8 L with 83,000 miles on it, loaded. I took the car in to the dealership for something minor and they found that it had a recall, in which they needed to replace the wiring harness and a couple of coolant valves. Got the car back and noticed that the zoned climate control puts out very little warmth on the driver side but cold A/C everywhere else, and it is winter. There is no way to adjust, you either get no heat or on full blast HI you get a little warmth at the driver's side and the other vents all cold. After a while of driving, the car will get too hot because you have to have the heat on HI for any heat at all, so I have to turn it off and on. Also, the driver's side and back windows all fog up because they are continually blowing cold air on the windows. I had them replace a recirculation motor, the climate control module and now they are saying it is bad wiring under the back seat and I might as well replace the car. I asked them to check the coolant, ok, the heater core, they said it's ok. I have mentioned air in the cooling system, nope, they checked that too. I have sent them emails of possible things it could be via Audi forums, they still have not been able to find it. Finally I called Audi USA. They are working with the dealership now to try to figure it out. Would anyone know what this could be? My car has been in and out of the shop the last 4 months and I really would like it back!

Sounds like the work of incompetent parts throwers.. They replace the wiring harnesses of a couple of coolant valves and all of sudden the **** stops working? If the coolant valves aren't working like they should, hot coolant from the engine is not making it to the climate control, thus no heat.. The Dealer has effed' this up, they need to fix it.
What was the original "minor issue"?

Hi dave944, I just heard back from them, evidently, when they replaced the wiring harness and the 2 coolant valves, the tech accidentally folded over one of the heater hoses. They found it and fixed it and now it has awesome heat. The only problem I have now is that they are stating it was a "previous repair" that caused it, as if they didn't create the problem. Well, no one was in the heater compartment but them and the heat did work perfectly before they got their hands on the car. Also, they mis-diagnosed it 3 times throwing expensive parts at it each time. They are stating that I now need to pay them for these parts ($1500) when the parts didn't fix the problem. Unfortunately I have a little fight on my hands with the dealership, but I have called Audi USA and they are going to bat for me. I will let you know once I get the car back how it turned out.

Got the A8 L back today, runs like a DREAM. Had to pay $470 total, due to a leaking recirculation motor. Heat is working perfectly now. Real reason heat stopped was due to the crushed/folded coolant hose, wouldn't let heat through the CC.
