Default 01 225 Timing belt service?

I'm trying to buy an 01 225, and getting the guy to replace the timing belt now, but according to him

"In the 225 HP derivation for 2001, the recommended t-beltservice,(according to my service mgr, who was just on the phone with Kinney Audi), is 120k. There would be no need to do the full service now...There was a recall on pulleys, and I called Audi to see if this
particular vehicle had any outstanding recalls, and this one does not,so that is up to code, as well"

Is the timing belt replacement only needed at 60-80 k for the 180's? The car hasnt had the pump, tensioners, or timing belt replaced yet, I dont want to buy it and turn around and put in a grand immediately.

Thanks

Get him to replace the timing belt. The 180/225 use the same timing belt, tensioner, water pump and the like. There are plenty of horror stories around here with TB failure between 60-85K. The AoA recommendation is too long. They have not issued a change in the recommendations in the US, but Audi of Australia among others recommend the TB at 60K or 4 years regardless of mileage.

Thanks, I'm trying to, but they seem only willing to cover the service when its due :P If theyd cover it then, I wish they would just do it now, not after it destroys everything. It would be great if there was actually some AoAmerica statement about replacing them 60-80k. These gusy are at Snowfire Auto in VT, if anyones heard of them.

Well then negotiate with them See if they'll knock $1000 off the price or just tell them no thanks and look for another car somewhere else.
