Default 1.8t white smoke ??

hello im new here

I just bought a 2002 audi tt quatttro 2 days ago. I was driving it yesterday and when i got where i was going i put the car in reverse and once i did white smoke came out. Might have had a tint of blue but not positive on that. I don't know what kind of oil is in it or the last time anything was replaced. It has 96k miles on it now and according to carfax it was looked over around 85k miles. I have a 6 month warranty on it also. Also put seafoam injector cleaner in the gas i don't think it is a result of that though.

If anyone has any ideas of what it most likely is please let me know.

Im sorry to say but as with most TTs you probably have transmission issues. Dont worry your not alone we all have them. Hah. Well if you have smoke and its white its because some sort of fluid is being burnt up in a manner its not supposed to. Id jack it up and start looking. Start poking around and check for leaks and just see what you can see thats the best way to start finding out whats going on.

I got white smoke out of my '00 TT Quattro at around the same mileage and it turned out the turbo had gone. It only spit out smoke at 3500 RPMs or higher. Perhaps you were driving it relatively conservatively and only reached 3500 RPMs when you zipped backwards in reverse?

Alright.... lets get this straight.

Black smoke, running rich (gas)
Blue smoke, burning oil
White smoke, burning coolant.

MOST LIKELY it was blue, not white, and it came from the turbo.

I wouldnt worry about it too much, but check your oil for white streaks, indicating that coolant is getting into the oil, which is what can happen if your headgasket is on its way out. If the oil looks good, don't put much thought into it, but eventually you may need to replace/rebuild your turbo.

Probably burning oil, id have it checked out I was gonna use the sea foam treatment but ive heard that it has the potential to kill your engine. I guess its possible that there was a leak that got plugged by sludge and when you ran the sea foam it opened that leak back up

I've never heard of seafoam hurting an engine. I've actually never heard anything but stories where it's helped....

Really? Spark plugs made it smoke? Never would have guessed that. On the off chance that it comes back for some reason and maybe is blueish-white smoke as in burning oil (coolant would be a sweet smell) check your pcv valve under the intake manifold. If it's plugged it'll push oil past your turbo seals with the added crankcase pressure.
