I have this screeching/whining sound when i start my car (started when the weather started getting cold). Im guessing its one of my belts .. .but ne one else have this problem?

Also I was looking for wheels after my order got canceled (none in stock- flik hornets) and I found that staggard fitments were a little more cheaper. I know that they are difff. wheel sizes 18x7.5 and rear 18x8.5 but what are its disadvantages and advantages of it?

it just gives you a visual effect and looks really good... cars like M3's run the wider rear wheels for more traction, the TT really doesn't need more traction in the rear. and its also not suggested to use them on quattros but some do it anyway

 

There's no reason not to; the width doesn't influence the behaviour of the Haldex. As long as the wheel+tire combo is the same diameter as stock it'll be fine.

I have an occasional high pitch sound when starting my car. It's instantaneous, and goes right away. I think it's a belt also, but can't figure out how to locate it. Nothing can be determined by looking at your engine compartment while someone starts your car. So, it's hard to find.

 

Hey guys in response to Vatter and beachchair check out this link if it sounds like this then its the starter.
I think my cars making the same noise. Theres a video that Diehlryan posted a lil ways down the page.
The sound he records sounds just like my noise.

regarding the squeal:
it could be your secondary air.
theres a thread in the TT section on vortex discussing this- vortex forums are down right now so i cant link it.
i was having the same problem, but my squealing lasted longer.
brought it to the shop yesterday and it turns out my alternator is bad.
getting that replaced today.
