Might need to be resynchronized. Check in your owner's manual about how to do that. I'd give that a try first.

I don't have my manual handy or I would love to help. It has something to do with holding down the button on your keyfob and then hitting the buttons manually on your car at the same time. Maybe somebody else can give some more specific instructions. Try a Google search for it too.

if you press the buttons a lot with the car not in range the remote and car become unsynced. Take it to the dealer to get reprogrammed for $60.

How to reprogram keyless entry 2001 Audi TT

Take one key and turn the ignition to on.

Close the door

put in the other key and turn it all the way to the right, press the lock button on the remote 1 time

Turn the key back to center for 2-4 seconds

Turn the key all the way to the left and press the unlock button

Took me a few trys but now it works!

Default Keyless and key entry problems.

I have a similar issue if anyone can help. My 1997 TT will not unlock using the remote, or the drivers door entry Key. I have checked remote battery and also the car battery which are fine. Jacking the car to get to the battery , sets off the alarm, horn and hazards . About a month ago I had the drivers door replaced due to an accident. I have had to have the car recovered as can not gain entry and is in park with the handbrake on. Any ideas. Would the door repair if not reassembled correctly caused this. Had no problems until yesterday.

Audis tend to have very sensitive alarms, especially interior. If you have it armed while you are trying to jack it up, it will likely set off the alarm.

Are you saying that even by using the key manually it will not unlock?

Yes, the drivers door can not be opened with the key.

Does the cylinder turn with the key inside? If it doesnt, then you probably need to get that lock fixed. But if it does turn, but doesn't unlock/lock, then it's probably your vacuum pump. You can try pulling one out of a junk yard and putting it in, assuming you can get into your vehicle. You'll have to reprogram your keys for keyless entry, but if the problem is the vacuum pump then the key manually should open the door.

Do you hear anything coming from the car when you use keyless entry, or keyed entry? If the vacuum pump isn't the culprit, I would think that you would hear it trying to unlock/lock the doors.

The key turned but didn't unlock the door and no noise using the key less entry. Have had the car recover to the repairers to gain entry.
Thanks for the suggestions anyway.

Definitely sounds like it's your Vacuum Pump. They aren't very hard to replace and don't cost much if you nab one off an auto wrecker.

I could be wrong. It would be great to hear from someone who has more experience than me. But thats where I would start.

The key lock portion of the door actuates a white plastic rod that goes into the door lock module.

If it didn't get engaged properly or it was broken, that would just let the key turn and not engage the actual lock.

You can remove the lock portion without removing the door panel assuming you have the door open.

General area you will be working:

There is a small black plastic plug that needs to be removed so you can unscrew a small torx screw to release the cylinder.

I apologize, but I don't know how to insert the actual pictures.
