Mixing gas....
So the fuel prices are getting rediculous for 91 Premium Octane here in NORCAL, I am paying a little over $3.45/gallon (on base).
I don't want to put Regular Unleaded in and screw something up...however my dad says that I can do a 50/50 mix...is this okay to do?

heheheh.
The water/meth option going around lets you run 93 like race gas, which also means running 87 covers you like you were running premium.
BTW its $3.60 a gallon for 93 here in NY

You drive an audi and want to save $0.20 a gal? I guess if you don't have a chip you could save 10 cents and put midgrade in.
I sometimes did this in my 32 valve cadillac. It was all right if you were easy on the engine.
Also- food for thought, there was a test somewhere that proved your gas milage decreased when you run 87 in a car designed for 93. This upset the cost difference and actually made it cheeper to run 93. I can't remember were I saw that though.

its the opposite of what the water/meth does for you. you're car starts to see knock because of the missing octane, so it pulls timing to protect itself. pulled timing = less power, so now you're on it harder because its running like a fat kid up stairs as your trying to get some sort of power out of it.

RE: Mixing gas....
you can use the lower octane and save 100 dollars a year, or you could use the normal 91-93 and enjoy the thousands of miles a year. fuel prices are going up, but two o2 sensors and a maff sensor replacement is the same cost as using the high test every year.

RE: Mixing gas....
but you don't save by using lower octane gas, because you need to use more of it, because you're car isn't allowing itself to make the power it has the potential to make.
lower octane = lower gas milage.
lower octane = lower gas milage.
