Tach problem on a '02 TT 225
Hi all,
I've got a 2002 TT with 45K miles. When I start the car, the tach needle jumps up and down like it's on crack. When I'm driving, if it's not jumping, it's really low, like 500 RPM at 50 mph. When I give it gas, it'll jump up. Is this the dreaded "lazy tach" problem?
All the other gauges (speedo, fuel, temp) are ok. The problem used to go away after a mile or two, but now it's staying like that longer and longer. I read the boards and some said it may be a battery problem, so on two separate occassions I put a battery charger on it overnight, but no dice.
So as you can tell, I'm trying my hardest not to have to replace the whole cluster because it's $$$ (but actually might not be a bad thing, it's also fading) Other than taking it apart and messing with it or buying a used cluster, is there anything else I can try?
Thanks for any help or advice you can give!
