1.8t tranny swap question

1.8t tranny swap question
I have a 97 1.8t Quattro manual.
2nd gear synchro was worn, now 2nd gear will no longer hold, it kicks out of gear with acceleration. The rest of the gears work fine. But time to replace the tranny.
My question.....I know a 2.8 Q M tranny will fit. My question is, if I use a 2.8 qm from similar year, do I need to change the clutch and flywheel?
I re-did the clutch in this car about 15k miles ago, so I'm sure its fine.
I know the cars use a different flywheel and clutch, because the engine is different, but I am thinking that a 2.8 tranny will slide right in and use my existing flywheel and clutch.
Anyone done this swap that can verify for me? Or do I have to change the flywheel and clutch also? Or just the clutch?
Anyway, if you have done this swap, please help. I'm considering a 2.8 manual tranny, because they are easier to find and cheaper. But if i have to replace the clutch and flywheel as well, that pretty much negates the difference and I may as well just get a 1.8 tranny.
Thanks!
