1996 Audi A4 2.8 V6 overheating issue
Howdy,
I just recently replaced the water pump and installed a new timing belt in my car (if that means anything). It runs superb and as it should, but it tends to have a over heating problem..When driving around and shifting anywhere from (2.5K-3K RPM) the temperature would remain normal, however when shifting around the 3.5K-4.5K RPM, the temperature would rise up..Yes, I do know that when accelerating faster and changing gears at that rpm, the engine will obviously heat up, but in this situation the car really does exceed in the overheating stage. The gauge will often show that it is in the "3/4th" region when shifting in that 3.5K-4.5K RPM range..I'm thinking that the thermostat is kaput and needs changing..The A/C does work, and both fans work as well, and the coolant isn't brown. But the lower hose that connects to the radiator at the coolant reservoir gets very hot..Car does have that "hot" smell as well..Any help/advice would be wonderful..Thanks - Mirza

I drove a 96 2.8 for 270,000 miles. I never had an air problem that lasted more than a couple miles. That motor tends to bleed itself pretty quickly. If you didn't change the stat with your t-belt job, I think you might be on the right track.
