Default 96 2.8l goit wet? wont start help!!

so long story short, i have a 96 a4 2.8l with just over 300k ( i know high miles), any way it has some usual issues, gas gauge dosent work hvac fan is dieing, so i was driving the gf to work yesterday morning, fired up fine...but seemed like it needed to warm up?...let it idle for a min...seemed to rev fine after that...on the way to work i drove thru a "small lake" and one min later it bogged down, almost acting like it was out of gas, so i got gas, nothing, read up on the whole water plenum thing...found a inch of water around the sealed "computer" box on the drivers side, sucked it out opend the box, it was dry inside..let it sit till today at noon still nothing.....ideas? fuel pump relay? ecm? electrical still wet? please help me

If you have 300K miles and never done the fuel filter, do it. Not sure that's the problem but its cheap and they do clog. When you do it blow through the old one, then through the new one. You'll see a big difference.

If your starting problem had anything to do with water, I'd pull some plug wires and check for spark before anything. Might even take some resistance readings around the coils to see if they're happy.
