Default 97 A4 Quattro Auto, no reverse or high gear, help

97 a4 1.8T quattro automatic. It wont shift into reverse or high gear, all of the indicator lights on the dash are lit up. It only has 85k on it and its in great shape other then the trans problems. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

all of the indicator lights on the dash are lit up.
that means your transmission is in limp mode due to some major problem that should not be ignored or else damage will be done. the car can limit use of the higher gears to protect itself, but reverse gear shouldnt be limited. have you ever had the transmission fluid changed? do you have any noticeable leaks?

the first step is getting the codes scanned. many OBD2 scanners can read the trans module in our cars but not all. VAGCOM or a dealer scanner is best if you have access to it.

no ****** way im reading all that without any formating. try breaking long sentences into paragraphs.

i did see you say "I keep seeing "check the codes"!! I would LOVE to check em....except one thing....WhereTheFrick is the ALDL PLUG!?!?"

the OBD port is under the steering wheel on the knee bolster. every once in a while theres a weird car with the OBD port on the back of the center console in front of the center seat in the rear, for whatever reason.

There...hows that for paragraphs?? Thanks for the ALDL plug info at least. I'll get it checked. Please read my thread some more then and see if you can get rid of this brain fart that I have. Thanks Ghost

Default Codes!

These are all the codes that were saved. Once they were cleared the car started to shift into reverse and high gear. I understand that a few of the codes are probably "bad ground" related. I have checked and cleaned up the main chassis ground that is on the bottom of the motor, as well as the three under the coolant reservoir. Im not sure where the others are. I also took the two plugs that are attached to the trans, and cleaned them very well. If you have any suggestions as to what else can be looked at or replaced let me know.
