Hi fellas, its my first post here
to start, i have also a problem but its the opposite
my clutch its always energized
its not the clutch stucked
i did troubleshoot by removing the belt and without power or with just contact-on the clutch is disengaged
but soon as a i start the car, it engages and pumps cold air... even whem im at full hot, making my requested full hot air still cold
myy bentleys says nothing about wich of the hundreds of relays installed is
my question is, which one is the clutch relay? (number)
i will also try checking on the trinary relay
your help is very much appreciated
thanks a million guys

my car is a 2001 A4-B5 1.8T AWM all wheel drive

yours:
Fernando. (Montreal Canada)

Ok Mab, here's what i got

1- first i did try the trinary switch, when disconnected the clutch did disengage and the fans shut-off

2- then i've found the clutch relay (as you said its 267 red)
- when disconnected, the clutch disengages but the fans keep running

i've meassured and the continuity between pins 85-86 is 69 ohm
so its not open (good), pins 30-87 are open until contact is closed, then resistance is 0 ohms
this means the clutch relay is good but
somebody is constantly sending 12v. to pin 85 closing the contact and therefore engaging the clutch
even at full hot, there's always 12v at that pin

next will be to meassure the pins at the trinary switch...
maybe it got stuck closed and ruining my hot air?

i hope i can find the schematic or wiring diagram

Thanks again Mab.
Fernando.

rockauto.com has them for 80 bux. Search your car then select electrical switch & relay --> a/c trinary switch. Otherwise Napa has them for 110.

I'm suprised no one has a pic of the trinary behind the headlight.

I might try to take some tonight if i can get around to it.

Hey Das Auto, i wouldn't be suprised if its not the climate control unit.
Mine had a weird problem like that, and that was the problem in the end.

Bought a used one from Shokan.com for 250 or so.

My clutch wouldn't stay engaged and the problem was the climate control unit not sending info right..

Thanks guys
ill have a look at it
but before buyng it, id like to check it
if im not mistaken, it should close contacts both at high and low pressure, isnt it?
im trying to ident it on my bentleys electric diagram to see wich pins should have continuity
if you guys have a diagram at hand (a schema) it will be great ho see it and work with it.
thanks a million for your assistance

Fernando

Where is this relay panel located? I have looked for an hour to find the location and I cannot find it anywhere. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
