Default B5 front wheel bearing diy?

Ive been able to find b6 bearing DIY's, but nothing for the b5. My question is how to get the abs sensor free from the hub. I dint see any handy plugs like are shown on the b6; its one long wire all the way back to the fender liner. Can the sensor be removed from the wire, or does it have to be cut? thanks

There's basically a hole in the spindle which the ABS sensor wire feeds through.
Remove the ABS sensor wire from the fender well (pop the grommet out). Unplug the sensor. Pull the sensor wire through the spindle, toward the sensor. Then wiggle/rotate the sensor from the spindle while pulling away from the spindle.

The hardest parts IMO are during re-installation: feeding the sensor wire through the spindle, and reinserting the grommet into the fender well. Not really difficult, though.

Assuming you're removing the upright to press in a new bearing, I would just unplug the sensor from inside the fender as MetalMan described and leave everything else as is. My experience with the sensors is that they do not like to come out of the upright and by twisting/pulling, you will ruin the sensor. Just let the wire dangle from the upright while pressing the new bearing.

Do I have to remove the covers by the battery? (after popping out the grommet)

Not needed. After the grommet is out, pull the wire through a little bit and the connector will come out of the hole. Then disconnect the connectors.
