Default Bad Thermostat or Heater Core?

My heat in my car doesn't seem to be working anymore. I felt the 2 lines going into the firewall, and they are both hot. How do I know if its a bad thermostat or a bad heater core? Is there any simple things I can try to do before I put a lot of money into it? I am selling the car in a day or so (I just bought an 06 a4), and I don't want to spend a **** load on a big repair. Thanks

It seems to be right in the middle when I drive (after like 10 mins of driving), and it stays there

If the water temp is normal and the heater core hoses are both warm, it's more likely a blend door stuck. It's in the dash... kind of a PITA. Put on the A/C and sell it on a warm day

haha i wish i could..only problem is that im selling it to my sister lol. i saw somewhere you can pull the hoses going into the firewall, and stick a garden hose in one end, and flush it out. Is this a possible fix?

a quick update: i flushed the heater core, and still no luck. it seems like my AC is always on, no matter what temperature I set the car to (and setting it to 60 degrees or 85 degrees doesn't seem to make it any warmer or colder, but it is very cold either way). So it seems the AC is working but on its own temperature that cant be changed. Could this be an electronic issue, over a mechanical?

I forgot to mention that my car never smelt like coolant or anything, so that's why I didn't believe it was the heater core

Both of the hoses to and from the heater core were hot, which means the core was flowing. A flush wouldn't have done anything.

Your blend door is likely stuck or the motor quit. It regulates the heat and A/C by directing airflow over the heater core or the evap core.

where is the blend door/motor located? are they as big of a p.i.a. to fix as the heater core?

they are both a pain in the *** but no where near a pain in the *** as the heater core, ive replaced both

Refer to this to check the HVAC to find out what is wrong with it, as mentioned above the blend door is more than likely jammed, your heater core is fine
