Brake Problems.. 2001 A4 Quattro 2.8.
It started a while ago..
I heard the tell-tale sign of needing new brake pads about 4 months ago. The grinding of metal on metal. I didn't have the cash or the time to replace the pads, so I let it go a bit far.
Fast forward to a month ago. When I would start my car in the morning, I'd hear a belt noise, or a dry pump noise. I didn't think much of it, as I've always driven older cards, and the noise seemed almost familiar. And my check engine light was on (I had o2 sensor codes for bad air channels)
Move Forward to last saturday. My right rear brake finally gave out. The pads were gone, and now the piston on the caliper was extended. The rotor was shot. I went to work on it, at first thinking I could just push the piston back in. I could not. I ordered a new caliper and put it on (I also changed the rotor while I was at it)..
And this is where everything seemed to stop making sense. I started my car up, and the engine sort of rocked like it was misfiring. This last about 15 seconds, then idled straight away, but at a low 500 RPM
I had a buddy pump the brakes while I bled them, but I started to hear a sort of "air escaping" noise by the brake fluid resovoir. And the engine seemed to almost die. It seems there is a leak somewhere.
Now, this is where I need your help.
What could be causing this problem?
