I recently purchased this 1998 A4 2.8 5 spd manual. Very sweet car. The abs, air bag are on and the brake like is flashing. Since my purchase of the car I did buy the Ross-Tech vag-com system. Got it installed on my laptop and ran codes.

Not real concerned over the abs codes but the code that concerns me and is the reason for asking is the Vag-com 18020 (P1612 35-00 Engine control module incorrectly coded).

My first question is what does that actually mean? Secondly, if the ECM is incorrectly coded where and how do acquire the correct code and recode.

Sorry for my ignorance but I am in a steep learning curve.

Use a vag com and read the codes for the airbag light. ABS/brake light is probably a failed abs brake module, and less likely, a blown fuse. ECU coding: B5 A4 ECU Recoding
