That would all depend on where you took it and how much prep work needs to be done. If its rusty and full of dents, its obviously going to cost more than a good body that just needs primer and paint. Rough estimate, I'd expect to spend upwards of a grand for a decent paint job.

I agree with redline, for a legit body shop to fix the dents, do the body work, prime and paint it, its gonna be wicked expensive. If you want a budget job you can take it to Maaco, but it won't be as nice. I had an old Bronco that I took to Maaco once, turned out ok. You can also save money by doing the bodywork/primer yourself, as long as they don't have to re-do it.

Maaco can be good if you do ALL of the prep work yourself and just have them spray it. Otherwise a properly done paint job will, as Redline stated, cost more than you car is worth.

a proper paint job is anywhere between $2000 and $4000. macco is going to be under $1000. you do get what you pay for however.

What's really sad is how much audiforum members depreciate our cars by saying they aren't worth anything.

I would love to erase 10 years of wear and tear off my car by getting it painted, but it is hard to justify the $3000 price tag of a good job done right. And paint prices are dependent on the area where you live too.

I see people throw money at cars that really aren't worth it all the time, but I think the Audi really deserves it. I picked up a friend to go out for dinner about a year ago and she didn't really know much about Audi's. This person btw, had a brand new Saturn. About half way there she leans over and says "Does that say 220,000 miles??!!" and I say "yea, why?" and she says "God, this car drives nicer than my new Saturn which only has 2000 miles on it!!" and I say "That's German engineering for ya..."

Ya see, what may be worth it to some, may not be worth it to others. If you don't owe anything on it and you plan on keeping it then it's worth it to spend the money on paint (as long as the car is in good mechanical condition).

The company I work for spends $6,000 to $8,000 to have a whole car painted (color change) and they do it to ten year old cars all the time...

its a sad fact, but its true. cars simply lose value, especially when they come out with an updated engine/model. its just the way it is. with that said, my car is priceless to me. i would never depreciate its value (to myself). hell, i detail my car religiously, cleaning it about three times a week in the summer. why would i do that to a car without any value? well, its mostly sentimental value than monetary value, but i wouldnt trade it for a brand new honda. however, our cars do hold more monetary value over time than most other (especially domestic) vehicles. for instance, i just sold my 99 grand am gt with 132k on it for 2000$. i bought my a4, which is on 01, for 6500$ last september with 115k on it. granted the grand am wasnt in the nicest shape, however it ran very good.
