A successful night! Got the new wiper arm installed, wired, and working with cluster. I also got the outside air temperature signal routed to the display and have begun work on the coolant level signal.

I wanted to start with the wiper arm controls to make sure all the hardware worked before proceeding. I decided that the easiest thing to do was to remove all of the pins and reinstall them as I got them to work.

The 3 pins to the left are for the reset, forward, and reverse buttons (pins 11, 14, and 18 respectively.)



I picked up a set of colored wires at my local electronics shop.



Pretty close match to the oem wires!

Wired up to the wiper arm connection. After everything has been tested and routed to its final location I will be wrapping the harness and securing it in place.

Routing the wires from the wiper arm to behind the cluster. Again this will be wrapped before final install.





I temporarily tapped the ground for my boost gauge for ground. (Next week I will be ripping all my old wiring out and replacing it anyways.)



Here I have the black 10 pin connector opened up and have rerouted pin 3 to pin 5 on the red connector (the white one you see here has a red cover.) This is the wire that carries the outside air temperature signal.



It works!



I started to try and get the coolant level signal hooked up but haven't got it to work just yet. I've traced the wire back to pin 20 on blue connector. In order to test it out I created a short jumper wire to connect to to the red plug without cutting open the original harness yet. So far I haven't got the low coolant signal to activate on the new cluster even with most of the coolant drained from the expansion tank. I'll do some more testing tomorrow.

I'll also be grounding out the light warnings. Next thing I'm on the hunt for is the fuel consumption signal. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

After I get everything working, I'll get the odometer set to the correct mileage and call it done!

 

Metalman im pretty sure remembers the pin you tap from fuel signal. Its on the ECU harness, its like pin 4 or 5, yellow wire. I can look for you when I get home. Looks like youve gotten the hard part out of the way, just a few quirks and your done. Did you get the EEPROMS swapped or recoded?

Another successful evening. Bulb out warnings have been grounded and no longer come up, fuel consumption signal has been found and connected, and coolant level signal kind of works.

I drained enough coolant to trigger the level signal on my old cluster, swapped pin 20 from the blue plug to pin 9 on the new red connector, put the new cluster back in, and I get a low washer fluid warning.

This doesn't make sense to me as pin 9 should be for low coolant (a red warning, different symbol), instead I get a yellow squirting bottle. Pin 9 is listed as being for the washer fluid on "cluster 2", not "cluster 1". Anyone have an idea?

This is not a deal breaker as it does function as it should, just the warning is incorrect. I would know what it means, but it's not ideal. I also tried putting the signal into pin 10 which did nothing.

So now that I know everything basically works, minus that mixed up warning, I'll get the EEPROM reset. Where or how can I go about this? Once I get the cluster back and everything is as it should be, I'll finalize the wiring, loom it up, secure it, and call it done.

 

Got bored. Polished (ruined, this ended up causing a high idle at 1300rpm) the inside of the new throttle body.





Tomorrow I will move the coolant level sensor pin to open slots on the connector and hope for the best.

 

should have undone the two torx bolts and cleaned the plate, trust me its worth it

Ive never seen the "cluster 1" LCD swap so PROPS!!! Looks good, it took me hella longer that that to get mine all situated and in.
