k i'll try anything at this point. that front O2 sensor is only about a year old as well so that shouldnt be the problem but a clogged cat could be a possibility. thanks

ok well i took out my spakr plugs again today to check the gap and they are all gapped at .028 but i did find that 2 of them were not screwed in as tightly as the other 2 so i tightened all of them down and then tried your test of unplugging the front O2 sensor. i started it and the idle didnt seem to jump around as much as it was before but it was still jumping a little. ( surging 50-100 rpm's) so then i put the O2 sensor back in and started it up again and it did the exact same thing, jumped about 50-100 rpm's. so i guess that means that its not a clogged cat and maybe tightening down the other 2 plugs helped. but its still not running right tho. there has to be something i'm missing. any other suggestions?

True about the coil pack recall. I just got my car back today, was missing on #1. I believe recall covers 2001-2003. My car is A6 2.7T, back to running like a champ. No cost from dealer, they tried to sell me a bunch of other over priced service though!

Did you ever find a solution to this? my car has been doing this same exact thing I just got it about a couple days ago and haven't had much time to diagnose it, I think im leaning towards coilpacks just because i frankly remember reading up that coilpacks can cause the car to act up on cold starts. Lemme know if you figured it out, thanks

Hi guys.
Same thing on 04 A6 3.0 Changed leaking valve gasket, changed sparks, cleaned oil inside shafts where sparks are sitting. After this procedure car was alright for about a week, then again, rough idel on cold start for about 10-20 sec chack engine light comes back with 5th cyl misfire, and then idle goes back to normal. I'm clueless after reading all the posts about misfires. I'm thinking it might be some sensor, because if it was something major I would get multiple cyl misfire and its only one for about 2 months already. Im so frustrated about this.
